This guide will walk you through how to light a deep fryer and provide crucial safety tips to protect you and your kitchen.

Lighting a Gas Deep Fryer
• Check drain tap closed and fill fryers with oil.
• Connect LPG hose to appliance and gas bottle using thread tape to ensure a gas tight fit.
• Turn ON Gas Bottle and Test connections for leaks with soapy water.
• Open Front Door. Before lighting the Fryer, ensure temperature control knob is turned to OFF (Right hand side)
• Locate Gas control knob (tan colour)
• Turn Gas Control knob until the star printed on the knob lines up to the indicator.
• Press and Hold the Gas control knob inwards for up to 5 minutes *This to allow the gas to flow from the bottle through the hose and to the pilot light outlet.
• Intermittently hold down the Ignitor button until the Pilot fires up, continue holding the gas control knob in (apx. 30secs) to allow the pilot light enough time to heat the gas flow sensor.
• Release the Gas Control Knob and the pilot light will remain alight. If not repeat steps 6 and 7 above.
• Rotate the Gas Control knob to the Run position and then adjust the temperature control knob to the temperature required. The main burners will then ignite.
• Close the door.

Important Safety Considerations
Never, ever leave it unattended: Gas fryer fires escalate very quickly. Stay alert and always be within reach when the burner is lit.
Ventilation is key: Ensure your frying area is well-ventilated. Gas combustion creates fumes that need to be dispersed.
Extinguisher at the ready: A Class F fire extinguisher is non-negotiable. Place it within easy access.
Monitor oil temperature: Exceeding recommended temperatures is a huge fire risk. Use a reliable fryer thermometer.
Water is your enemy: Never use water on an oil fire. Use your extinguisher, baking soda, or smother small contained fires with a lid.
Protective gear: Heat-resistant gloves and long sleeves provide extra protection against spatters.
Prevent oil overflow: Don’t overload your fryer basket. Adding too much food at once lowers the oil temperature rapidly and can cause spills.
Dry your food well: Excess moisture causes dangerous oil splatters. Pat food dry before frying.
Regular gas line checks: Inspect the gas line for leaks or damage. If you smell gas, DO NOT light the fryer. Shut off your gas supply and contact a professional immediately.
Additional Tips
Cleanliness: Keep your fryer clean to prevent grease build-up, which can be a fire hazard.
Check gas lines (gas fryer): Regularly inspect gas lines for leaks or damage. If you smell gas, turn everything off and contact a professional for repair.
Disclaimer: Even following these steps, there’s always a risk involved with deep fryers. If you’re unsure, consult your fryer’s manual or contact a qualified technician.
